I will start with free online image editing tools. Photoshop is the most used image editing software. In a few clicks you can manipulate your image to something fantastic. It is also very expensive and an overkill for the stuff you will be doing.
The one I recommend to a lot of my clients is
Pixlr – it is free and very similar to Photoshop. A very useful & nifty program
